Id rather not put this in Politics, as it's not really about NZ not JA or Labour or the Coalition

[waiting for a bashing on that comment]

I felt she did really well. NZ is puny. But the goal of the vast majority of the 192 normal nations is of the same ilk. Lets work together. Obviously she is not the old, white, GOP brigade that dominates the news, that is disrupting the world, and for her to delicately get that 192 nation point across was very well done.

I believe she did a great job. Her address made Trumps look pathetic. She represented Aotearoa in an excellent way and for her first major international address I will give her 10/10

I don't think her speech made Trump's look pathetic. I think he managed that all by himself!

I'm far from her biggest fan. And I think media have the right to ask some questions about the draconian rules around the baby at NZ Parliament when it ends up in front of the world media of the floor of the UN.

But as a representative of NZ, I think she did really well. People wanted to talk to her, and she's proven herself to be just as goony as John Key was when it comes to the chat show side of things. Seems like a fairly successful trip, even if there looks like there will be a taxpayer spending scandal waiting for her when she gets home.

From a media PR perspective it was a success - she got profile.  I see this as positive, but unimportant.

What matters to me is influence on other leaders and counties. Monsieur Le President clearly likes her.  But beyond that?

Has her UN appearance increased NZ's international standing?  I genuinely can't tell.  I didn't see coverage of any substantial issues related to her trip.  I'm not sure if that is because she didn't do anything substantial or because the media reported nothing else.

When I saw footage of her speaking at the UN assembly she struck me as starry-eyed and idealistic.  Her explanation of NZ and NZ values was deeply cringe-worthy.

Ok, so it was a failure

I dont recall the UNGA being 193 people deciding policies and rules. Its a gathering, a networking event, and if anyone makes a name, is popular, is talked about, that can only add to our voice when any nitty gritty policy making goes on. If you are quiet or wishy washy, take a back seat. If you get it on in front of the world, you have some cred, and thus a voice.

But clearly partisan

That's the bit I'm not so sure about.  Getting on mainstream TV gets you star-power, but does that increase your influence with other leaders?

I imagine world leaders are rather cynical about mainstream media coverage.  For that reasons I imagine it doesn't have much sway.

Who did JA get bi-lats with and for how long?  What was achieved as result of those bi-lats?

To me that is where the rubber hits the road.  Not hiring a film crew to do PR photos at the taxpayer's expense.

That's easy - and a definite "yes".

If you get elected as a leader as a result of being "appealing", then other leaders do tend to take notice of you far more than they do of the "losers".

JA did fine on the world stage.  How well do you think Bridges would have done? I've yet to be impressed with a single utterance, but YMMV.

Oh Fred, things were going so well, then you had to go and mention the opposition leader. Now I fear this thread is destined to deteriorate into the same morass that all the other GZ political threads end up in.
