Yes the old farts on Capital Hill are at it again where a bipartisan bill:

Would Ban Apple From Pre-Installing Its Own Apps on iPhones

Though the title and intro only high-lights Apple, in reality it will apply to all Smart Phones where the manufacturers would not be permitted to sell their Smart Phones with their own apps pre-installed.

So my first question is, will that apply to Apple App store APP and Google Play Store APP, cause that is the only way you can download and install app's EASILY.

Next this will take away the instant inbuilt functionality of the phone - No camera app, No wallet app for pay wave, No torch app and No Contacts app and wait is the dial/phone functionality an app?. Or are we just talking about; message, weather, calendar, calculator, photo, reminder, document type app's?

Is the legislation going to define, in all its nitty-gritty hundreds of pages of fine print, what constitutes a "pre-installed" app.

How dumb do they want to make a Smart Phone ❓

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm surprised that ("apple won't be able to pre-load apps") is what you take as the intent or purpose of the bill.

Nothing would please me more than to see Alphabet and Facebook split up and their components sold off and run as independent entities.  Especially when many of those components weren't "innovations" that resulted from their own work, but because they'd seen that the easiest path to immense profit was by putting 100% effort into stealthy acquisition of anything that could be seen as a future threat/competitor.

It is how Facebook has operated from day one.

Does the legislation also require devices to support more than one secure store app? I expect that is needed for genuine competition among storeholders.

The non-competitive store monopoly aspect is the thing game companies have started complaining about.

It appears that Bloomberg made a major editorial error yesterday in the reporting of the above article - Oh Dear

U.S. Antitrust Legislation Would Require Users to Be Able to Delete All Pre-Installed Apple Apps [Updated]

The whole article has been rewritten:

"Under the legislation, users would need to be permitted to remove any Apple-created app. Apple already allows many of its own apps to be deleted, but core apps like Messages, Photos, and Phone cannot be removed. The bill does NOT prevent Apple from pre-installing its own apps, it prevents Apple from blocking users from deleting pre-installed apps."

The Bloomberg article does focus primarily on Apple but the legislation applies to all the big Smart Phone manufactures and the overall legislation is part of wider legislation aimed at the big tech companies monopolies.

This appears to be a big Boo Boo on Bloomberg part and of course now makes sense considering the original article.
