richms: If you want router, get a router, if you want wifi, get an accesspoint. All in ones are a disappointment all round.

if you want switch, get a switch, if you want vpn server, get a vpn server and so on and on/money money money ... ;)

Don't know other "all in one", mine works for me fine, I'm not disappointed.

I'm not saying you are wrong but "all in one" have life too ;)

some of the routers, but is any router if you have 20+/30+/40+ devices in your network (not talking about commercial/business routers, just home ones) won't do full gigabit? I would say any home router won't do full gigabit with the 40+ devices load

Most ISP provided routers handle that totally fine - I've had the Fritz!Box (given out by 2degrees) cope without stress with 90 devices on the network.

I personally use a Mikrotik RB4011 with ~60 devices and that also routes Gigabit fine. Note this is a far cheaper router than your Asus jobbie :)

Dumb question, the mikrotik a good wired solution that handles DHCP and PPPoE?

Then you just plug a wireless AP into it?

@Delorean, yes RB4011 will do that very well.

EDIT, or RB4011 with wifi if a single AP is needed and router is in a good location.

ok, checked Voyager plan prices: Fibre 100 is $79 for 100/20 which is slow for me, and Fibre Max is $99 for max,  oops surprise. For some reason I was under impression $79 for max, or someone told, he pays it.

Too bad Chorus do nothing to compete with Vodafone HFC in Wellington, in Chch Enable offer 200/100 in place of 100/20 to RSPs who are willing to pass the benefit onto end consumers.
