Ah, that's quite a bit different to your first pic. By mythical, I didn't mean you were imagining it, just that with such a low noise margin it was improbable you would see it again. They all seem to have a significant error rate though. I'm sure @BMarquis can advise, but that is frequently a bad cable joint somewhere, and common that it is at the consumer end when on the upstream. Realise it's a fairly new build, but it wouldn't hurt to double check there's nothing amiss in the internal wiring, as that would account for erratic connection speeds and high error rates.

Those errors on your line will be pulling it back I'd bet.

Yeah, I'm not sure about how good the TP-Link router was reporting errors. I read that the earlier firmware in this router always reported 0 errors. The firmware was updated but there were still question marks over the error rates with abnormally high rates sometimes being reported. When Brent looked at this a couple of weeks ago he seemed happy with the error rate. His words "just a relatively small number of errors and nothing serious" Right now the Draytek router is showing 0 TX CRC errs and 47 RX CRC errs.

Would a line fault explain my ping dropping from 19 to 8ms?

Ah. Might be miss reporting then (it did look pretty bad otherwise.)

Interleaving value directly affects your latency. Sounds like your on the low or off profile.
It's possible increasing it to high will assist. But that's likely down to line condition etc.

Overall if that's what the solution is Brent is the one to know. He will have all the graphs that he so loves to hate on me for nit picking ;P

So... There was a spontaneous resync - on the 3rd/4th of July This caused DLM to push your noise margin back up to 12dB.
Did you reset/reboot/swap the modem?

If you didnt touch the modem and it really was spontaneous....
- Your line has no interleaving.  ddDLM seems happy enough with the error rates.
However, if you are OK with the ~10ms latency hit in exchange for a few mbps we can try that.

- I'd like to reiterate that this is nothing to do with Spark vs Voyager.
They both provision in the same way ddDLM makes decisions daily based on detailed analysis of the ever-changing DSL parameters

- I believe the ddDLM is behaving as expected here.
You are one of the minority - which I like! - who are OK with some interleaving to have a reasonable sync rate and line stability - Instead of wanting me to break physics with low latency and high sync rate demands :)

Brent your forgetting... Those microseconds are almost as fast as a single refresh on their screen!

Can't have games delayed like that!

And surely it's all the providers fault if your speed drops due to retransmit...

Hi Brent, I swapped to the draytek modem on the 28/29 June. I didn't notice any significant change in speed when I did this.

It was around the 3rd or 4th that I put my Getflix DNS servers into the router. The first time I rebooted it seemed to have lost my Voyager login so it took a second attempt (and reboot) before the settings stuck. I noted that my speed had dropped back down on the morning of 5th, so it seems that this may have been the cause. We also had a storm here around about this time (a lot of wind) so maybe that contributed, who knows.

I definitely think that the higher d/l speed is of more benefit to me than the lower latency, so if you can make this happen it would be much appreciated. And thanks again for your help.

OK, that explains it - the reboots would have caused the Mean Time Between Reboots to be exceeded and ddDLM tried to stablise the line.  I doubt the storm contributed.
You've learnt a valuable lesson that others have pointed out a few times around geekzone - more than a reboot a day and ddDLM starts to consider your line might have issues... There is no way for the DSLAM or DLM to know why the DSL signal was lost, so we need to assume the worst and make sure the line is stable.

After a week or so, it is likely ddDLM would calculate that stability has returned and move you back to the lower Noise Margin

I've made some tweaks and dropped you an email.
