I have had a year of MyRepublic UFB pure 100/20 with voip, it's been pretty good mostly.

Options are to leave it as is for now, signup for two years or change. Voyager looks to be an option with similar cost and services, but better performance. I'm not interested in the other main players, big pipe does not show UFB service at my address.

Changing UFB provider could be a bit of a pain? Anyone using Voyager and can comment?

I have about 20 clients using it, all happy. Support is only during working hours which I find a real pain but other than that it's good. I use them at work and VDSL with them at home.

BP will have UFB at your address if the other providers do, contact them if you want to check manually.

Changing provider is very simple with UFB. No installation required. Just order the change and in most cases change the username and password on the router. Painless.

I use their VDSL at home and had no issues - dont see why their UFB would be any different. VDSL package I got with them was $80 cheaper than what Vodafone could offer me at the time (altho Vodafone did drop it down but still not enough to make me stay)

Not sure that's true, they've only been rolling out to the big centres so far. No handover in places like Oamaru etc, Hamilton only went live a couple of months ago.

Sorry, yes that is absolutely true. Sometimes I forget not everyone lives in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch :)

Thanks for the replies, will give Voyager a go. Big change is also dropping the home phone and going naked.

I dislike signing up for 12 or 24 month term and break fees, but the price is right.

We have been on Voyager UFB for 12 months now. Cannot fault them at all. Really happy with the service, speed and price. Wouldn't look anywhere else.

I am on UFB and signed up to Voyager UFB, account and direct debit set up, and provisioning order placed. Several days later, sorry no can do!

Piss poor service, spelling and grammar.

Our provisioning team has the following update/request for your order:

We are regrettable unable to proceed with your transfer order, as Voyager doesn't currently have infrastructure to provide UFB connections in Blenheim.

You have my apologoes for this inconvenience. Whilst we're currently working to deploy the required infrustructure for this area, a completion date has yet to have been set.

Switched from Orcon $95/month to Voyager $70/month.

I was annoyed about an extended outage I had 3 years ago, due to a Orcon pushed Christmas patch, and off-shore helpdesk. The flakey Orcon "black box" didn't help, but has finally gotten reliable.

Anyhow I'm looking forward to paying less.

Both are 100/20 unlimited data.

From Voyager, I purchased the ZyXEL VMG8924-B10A for $225

Obviously it'll take 22 months ($225 / $10 saving per month) before the ZyXEL has paid for itself, so probably not really worth it.

I had a couple of observations.

When Voyager says that switch at a particular time, it's switched and the old service (Orcon) was no longer available.

I got a fixed IP address for $15, which was likely why, so your ISP change may not cause an abrupt stop.

What freaked me out for a couple of minutes was the lack of any lights on the ZyXEL. I thought I had a bad power supply.

It turns out there's a "LED Display Switch" on the back. It's off by default, meaning no lights.

It booted up without problem. If all my devices had been using DHCP, which is the normal and recommended way of setting up a home network, I'd be all good to go.

Because I use static IP addresses I use the private "10" network, and the ZyXEL uses the private 192.168.1, and I have a number of static IP addresses, it was easier to switch the ZyXEL IP address, and my DHCP range.

The IP address and DHCP range is under this menu "Network Setting...Home Networking"

Just because I'm pedantic, I noticed the green light changed to a orange light on the Chorus white box / Optical Network Terminal / ONT.

Not to worry. The orange / yellow flashing light indicates a 1 Gbps internet connection in use. Orcon was the slower, but still Ok, 100Mbps

As expected no real dramatic change in performance. My Orcon black box was from 2012. the internet feels a tiny bit fast, though it may be my imagination.

Was looking at Voyager also, and something that doesn't seem so good about Voyager (to me) is you apparently have to use their router if you want to use their Broadband+Voice. That'll mean I'd have two working routers sitting on a shelf gathering dust. Don't know if I'm adventurous enough to switch to 2Talk or whoever. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

Semi-related/off topic question:

Voyager lists MyRepublic under their "Customers, Compadres & Consorts". Chorus lists MyRepublic as supplying UFB in more regions than Voyager. Voyager also promotes itself as a wholesale ISP. What's the Voyager-MyRepublic relationship - is one of them wholesaling off the other?
