We moved to NZ in January. Fortunately we are able to access UFB to our residence. Because we had already Skinny SIM's in our cell phones (because of price & ease of obtaining) we blindly opted for Skinny "Unlimited Fibre Ultra". This was a mistake in that we need a dedicated IP and this provider does not offer it. A switch would be needed to another RSP.
After hanging in with Skinny for 6 months I would rate them as being OK for a joe six pack family but not so hot for more demanding users. Their QoS in terms of speeds, pings etc was acceptable but not outstanding. There was a noticeable variation in the evenings/peak periods. Of course with a 1Gb connection these variations were not a deal breaker, but they were there. International routes to anything other than Sydney/San Jose was pretty bloody disappointing. Skinny(Spark) seem to do some really weird routing overseas with stuff going through Japan when you wouldn't expect it, for some reason. On the "Unlimited Fibre Ultra" speed tier you're not going to be unhappy but you will notice it could be better.
After MUCH deliberation I finally opted for Voyager. They seem pricey on the face of it but when you consider most RSP's charge $10/mth or more for a dedicated IP, the price difference is not so marked. Voyager offers an option to choose a dedicated IP during initial order, charges a small initial fee then no further cost. Speeds, pings etc have been excellent with no detectable variation 24/7. International routes have been very good. The gamers in the house are VERY happy. We use Cloudflare DNS on our routers and Voyager seems to use them also judging by the very good consistent response times. You get what you pay for as granny always said.
The cut over to Voyager was seemless. The only comment I would have is make sure you understand that Voyager use VLAN tagging on their UFB connections. I used a search engine to see how to do this on my ASUS RT-AC68U routers but it did'nt work off the bat. I reset the router and let it run it's 'wizard' giving the appropriate answers. It worked fine after that & I saw which setting I had muffed.
Not much is ever mentioned about Voyager on these forums which is why I took so long to make up my mind, and why I'm leaving a comment here. Hope it helps someone.
Cheers
Y
