@VygrNetworkMonkey - while I'm pinging you in my other thread anyway - I was also discussing the new Voyager-supplied router with your call center. I think it was a new Huawei model to replace the HG659, but I neglected to write down the model number. Any chance you can confirm the new model number please?

Heya @mdf,

Voyager replaced the Huawei HG659 with the Huawei DG8245V.

The DG8245V is a lot more feature rich, with a revised GUI, and separated admin/user access.
We've had very little issue with it, it's been a solid platform for us.

Legend, thanks.

I have to ask about one feature in particular though - what does "very annoyed person (VAP) identification" do!?

@michaelmurfy - any reviews of this model? Hint hint. 😉

Have not tried any routers lately I'm afraid. But, thought of trying a Mikrotik if you're wanting something way more advanced / reliable?

Mikrotik also has both an Android and iOS app with per user, per-device kid control built in. If you have another VLAN for the kiddos with a DNS enforcing safesearch etc then it is not a bad platform and may work well for you.

It's a feature used to identify boomers - just by their wifi activity! /sarcasm

Serious answer: We don't use it - but from what I understand, it's a remote diagnostic/monitoring tool from Huawei.
We don't have any Huawei kit in our network, aside from customer CPEs, so it's unlikely anything we'd be able/want to utilise anyway.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set source ips in the firewall configuration? Have they fixed the issue common in the 659 that caused Nat rules to just disappear if they were too old and new ones were made?
