I got booted offline for a few seconds at 19:50, and since then my latency has been higher than usual. My Warcraft game (Australian server) is noticeably laggy and pings to local servers like 1.1.1.1 or even voyager.nz are in the 65-70 ms range.

Service status lists "Cloud VM" as under maintenance but everything else is listed as OK. Is anyone else having issues?

You located in Tauranga? Rebooted your ONT / Router manually?

@VygrNetworkMonkey FYI - there was a few threads open about this.

For what it is worth I am not seeing this on another Voyager connection so may be a localized issue.

Issues here in tauranga, voyager help desk say there are no known network issues. Logged a fault with UFF to investigate tomorrow.  I just noticed your post, see my other post.

surfisup1000:

I'm on voyager fibre max speed (1000/500) in Tauranga, using a fritzbox 7490.

Today at 4pm my internet connection 'reset', and after reconnecting, my internet speed is hovering between around 5/200 (down/up), ping is 50-60ms (up from 5ms). If I can get 200 up, why not 200 down at least? This is crippled.

Called voyager, they can't see anything wrong on their side, he asked me to do a factory reset on the router (I had a spare 7490, to check for hardware issue), swapped cables/computers and ran speedtest.net (laptop->cat6 cable->7490->cat6 cable ->ONT), got similar slow speeds. Restarting ONT no help either.

Thankfully, he logged a fault, but, what could do this?  This is really bad timing, lots of people in the house, lockdown, and internet barely usable at these speeds.   It is a bit annoying they don't have better diagnostic tools available, but it is UFF (or chorus in auck) who set the speeds between the house ONT and voyager?  He said he can't see the speed, only whether it is active.

Oh well, just wondering if I am the only one.

Whakatane (Chorus), not Tauranga (UFF). I've rebooted both, and have tried another PC, and still getting high pings, although they're a little lower than before. I also just had a dropped packet:

PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=59 time=66.200 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=59 time=58.159 ms
Request timeout for icmp_seq 2
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=59 time=61.377 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=59 time=63.422 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=5 ttl=59 time=58.548 ms

Fortunately I'm not doing anything critical right now, but hopefully it'll be OK in the morning.

Edit: This might be a "trend from too few data points" thing, but 10 minutes later it's looking yet lower:

PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=59 time=50.856 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=59 time=39.575 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=59 time=40.084 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=59 time=45.068 ms
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=59 time=40.217 ms

Evening everyone! (Thanks for the ping @michaelmurfy)

I'm looking into these issues currently.

At a glance, I can definitely see an increase in latency (+60-ish ms) to Tauranga and surrounding regions.
I'll report back when I have some more info.

Just signed up to Voyager today on their 100/20.

.Up and Down speeds were great after service commission around 4pm today but having all sorts of issues now as per the other posts.

Really high pings etc.

We're in Tauranga too.

Not a great introduction to the service... but hoping its just bad timing :)

I've been with Voyager for ~18 months. These sorts of issues are rare :)

Their help desk has no other idea of any other issues outside of mine.

Best for people to call in, so they know it is more than one customer. Their support shuts at 10pm.

Hokay, an update:

  • Issue caused by Fiber cut in Huntly (it's always Huntly!)
  • The issue started approx 6:30pm-ish
  • ETR: 1am Fri 3rd September
  • There are multiple regions impacted - specifically: Tauranga, Rotorua, Napier (and surrounding areas). Think "upper right quarter of the North Island")

Update: The issue has been resolved - 01:39am, 3rd Sep 2021

@thecap10 - Welcome aboard! This is certainly not a normal situation, and we are working to remedy it. Your timing is impeccable ;)

Post Updates:

10:35pm - Updated ETR to 1am (Previously Midnight)
10:12am (+1) - Updated resolution information

Thanks for the update @VygrNetworkMonkey I was starting to think maybe I was the cause :) but I was nowhere near Huntly... honest.

I'm assuming that this means end of Friday rather than start of it? I wonder what it'll be like trying to remote (RDP) into work tomorrow... might be a good excuse to not get any work done! 😁

Looks like there is a few Chorus connections around the Huntly area down currently (all with a time of 4:11pm): https://chorus.co.nz/outages

Heya @Behodar,

Midnight is the start of a day - ie: 00:00 Friday the 3rd. Friday ends at 23:59.

I may need to amend that date, as the more information I receive, seems to indicate it's a doozie of a cut.....
