Looks Like EFTPOS NZ is having some issues.

Will be causing chaos at those stores that use EFTPOS NZ (about half?). I think the ENZ retailers use VeriFone terminals.

They have gone into Offline mode, meaning one purchase per store, less than $400

Just bring out the zip zap machines and do manual transactions, a bit of a pain but at least you get the sale.
Most people dont realise that you can do a zip zap for eftpos but you can.

I know enough to be dangerous

Seems fixed now.

Offline works electronically on most Verifone terminals now.

Although what happens if someone uses a cancelled eftpos  card or overdrawn, which would have failed if done electronically . Also people could use a card they have found, as some eftpos card don't have a signature field on the back. Who wears the loss, the bank or the retailer?

With ANZ and tried to purchase lunch at 2.30pm in Dunedin
Got something along the lines of could not complete

Thankfully I was being served by the store manager who said I could sort them out tomorrow since I am in the store everyday.

Just need to correct this misinformation, there were zero issues with the EFTPOS NZ network.

The issue was at ANZ's end which affected transaction processing of ANZ cards on both EFTPOS NZ and Paymark terminals: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11564917

Also, once a terminal has entered offline mode the floor limit is $300  PER transaction PER terminal depending on card type...so if a store had multiple terminals you could do multiple transactions.

Love how the ANZ website has nothing about this outage, but Facebook and Twitter for ANZ do ..
Wish companies would use their own websites for news

Fair point, however these days news gets broken on social media first.

Why? By the time they get it on there the outage is probably over.

Saw someone with issues at the post shop but it went thru for them on the 3rd try.

Because the website is the first place I go to for news
Why should it take them longer to put a news post on a website than it does on Facebook and Twitter?>

Yes, sorry, it was an ANZ processing thing, but it wasn't affecting JUST ANZ cards.
I was in a store yesterday, and they use ANZ for their processing (through EFTPOS NZ), and no cards were working. It was apparently down for nearly an hour.
