Mine doesn't have advanced options such as that. But you would think it will be Android or Embedded given their OS base requirement (likely embedded if the docs saying it emulates a card talking direct to the hardware is accurate)

Nope, still doesn't work.

I've ensured that the phone is 'awake'.

I've taken the cover off and still same issue.

When I tried at Countdown today, it just kept asking me to try again. After I'd given up (and used my credit card instead), I received a message on the phone app, stating that there was a connection error.

The only thing I can think of, which can cause a problem, is that I've got a small magnet on the back of the phone (used as a phone mount for the car).

Is that sticker some sort of passive NFC thingy?  Could be messing with the phone's NFC coil, also I seem to recall Snapper had trouble with the Galaxy 5 because of weird coil placement.  Can anyone confirm?

They have been known to be fussy as to where you hold. Top corner, bottom centre etc. Differs between models, damned if I can find an exploded diagram other than a spare replacement board :/

If I can find a spare one, I'll remove the current one and test it without.

Yeah, what is it (curiosity partly)?  Looks like it's right over the sweet spot of the model Telstra Australia use: https://forum.nfcring.com/topic/244/galaxy-s5

I can confirm that the magnet was the issue. Works fine, if I remove it.

Having got a compatible phone (Nexus 5X), I have been using this quite frequently.

Of note, my non compatible Nexus 4 now has the option in the settings to use goMoney after it was setup on the 5X ..

Thank you GZers for this thread, which prompted me to update my thinking, dispel long-held fears, download and register the app, and join this decade.

With great trepidation, I tried it at the local supermarket, and to my great relief, the phone immediately made a notification sound and vibrated, the till went "ping" and immediately spat out a receipt.

As I walked back to my car, the checkout operator came running out behind me.  So ecstatic and in awe with the efficiency of the system, I'd completely forgotten to collect my groceries from the counter.

Not sure if this is relevant, but there's a small magnetic clasp on my phone case -  but the magnet would have been on top of the screen - not between phone and terminal (5x - case closed, just activated it by touching fingerprint scanner - though I didn't realise it actually didn't unlock as I'd rebooted it and needed to enter the PIN to unlock it)  That I suppose is a slight security flaw, as if the phone had been lost/stolen, then anybody could use it at a terminal, as they don't need to unlock the phone - just tap the power button to get to the login screen - and it will work.

@Fred99 if your phone was to get stolen (and somebody knew that behind the lock screen was ANZ GoMoney) you can either deactivate it by phoning ANZ or by remotely wiping your phone with Google Device Manager. It is the same concept as having a card with PayWave / PayPass and that going missing.

@xlinknz if you've got a rooted device with the Xposed module installed you can use SuperKiwi however this may or may not work.

Yes thanks.  I'd figured that it was a minor security issue - and that once you realised, then you could take steps.   I'm probably more likely to misplace my phone - as my paywave card tends to stay in my wallet at all times, my wallet in my pocket.  My phone, probably typically, I use frequently, leave it on a desk, car seat, whatever. I'm not glued to it though - so I do "misplace" it.  I know nothing about Android programming and whether it's possible, but if it is, then the app would be a bit safer if NFC was disabled until the phone was unlocked - rather than just active.  I'm also saying that from the POV of a 5x user, where if the phone is in a wallet-style case with cutout for fingerprint reader, then it's trivial/instant to activate the phone in one step because of the position of the sensor. Not sure if perhaps that becomes a PITA to unlock other phones when they're in a case, hence ANZ designed the app to work that way.

And I can now confirm that I was wrong, when I wrote that the issues were over (after removing the magnet). Tried a few times since. Not working. Tried at Countdown earlier today. It registers it, but I'm asked to insert card.

Anyone know if Mastercard will be added soon?

Also how often do they add new phones?

It seems ANZ have whitelisted additional phones in recent weeks but haven't made any changes to the list on their website. My Sony Z5 now works brilliantly.
