It seems ANZ have whitelisted additional phones in recent weeks but haven't made any changes to the list on their website. My Sony Z5 now works brilliantly.

yea i emailed them and seems the Mate 9 is compatible i just don't have a card to use on it yet

Yes, I noticed this the other day. Was pleasantly surprised as I didn't think the Z5 would ever be added.

Hopefully they'll switch to Android Pay for you like they have in Oz

I have my visa debit and mastercard credit card in my Z5 premium (and was on my Z2 before i broke it)

My actual card paywave failed today (I had it in my hand to do something not related) so I whipped out the phone and all was awesome.

Be interesting to see if BNZs agreement is exclusive (ala samsung freeview) or not.

Bizzare how between countries the same banks can run different systems. Assuming the A in it still has deep ties with the ditch counterparts.

Are the payment methods tied to an app that uses NFC or base service.

Just enabled NFC on mine to test if it's been whitelisted next time and note android pay is available as an option despite not being a bnz customer.

Guessing it's more a regional thing or tied to SIM country?

Android Pay is a Google product. It's available on any pretty much phone with Android 4.4+ that has NFC.

ANZ's app uses it's own integration with the NFC chip and is only compatible with selected handsets that they've performance tested and happy with.

If I recall, ANZ's systems were pretty similar to the Australian systems, but they opted to adapt NBNZ's old platform for NZ post-merger.  They keep their core product names the same where possible (obviously to make it easier) but I imagine the backend platforms are Night and Day  (sorry, couldn't resist ;)).

The last time I looked (a few years back now),  ANZ NZ were the most in-sync to their Australian owner compared to the other AU-owned NZ brands.  (Although NAB/BNZ did share a lot of common infrastructure)

Main problem is, different regulatory frameworks, products, expectations etc mean it must be hard to build a common platform to keep everyone happy.
