When the chip fails, they use the magnetic stripe as a back up. I have a failed chip on one card, so using EFT-POS card to save the hassle of having to insert, have card it go can’t be read then given swipe option. EFT-POS card expires in a few months so see if they replace it, suspect they will
Also, not recently, I had the card chip work in some machines and not others, so some machines can be fussier. I haven’t had it happen in a couple of years so they probably fixed what ever was causing that.
If there is no magnetic stripe then no other way to use card without fee when chip fails. Use watch/phone for payWave, at places that don’t charge fee.
Credit card has a couple of years before expires.Maybe I should go to bank and get them to replace it since the card didn’t last the time they expected it to.
If places didn’t charge for pay wave wouldn’t need to have card on me in first place, and it wouldn’t be broken, as I guess the rubbing on the chip when take it out of wallet and putting it back in is what damaged chip. Or wear and tear from inserting it into the machines.
