That erastically just can't happen in the short term. Remember a card also needs to be able to be used globally, and until every ATM and EFTPOS terminal is EMV complaint that clearly won't be happening.

I caught a suuper shuttle this morning and they still stuck in the 80's use zipzap machines..

sbiddle:
billgates: Certainly no rewards or travel insurance. Purchase protection should be there providing it's a credit transaction online or overseas.
I suspect the OP is talking about the extended warranty and theft/damage protection. These are the sorts of things that come as standard with a Platinum card.
I get extended warranty with my fairly bog-standard National Bank Mastercard. I'm not sure about the latter though.

You might get protection with a Visa Debit - check it out.

Re: insurance etc .. nope. Need Gold or higher.
But then again at least the Gold card I have, if the airfares are too cheap you may not qualify for insurance. There is a min set price for the airfares both domestic, and a diff rate for AU and yet another one for beyond that. Like if you get a AirNZ grabaseat you may not get cover. I got a v cheap fare overseas to Asia last year, didn't know I wasn't covered until I read the contract from my own time .... Platinum cards may not have that exception. But with the free insurance they generally do more more limitations and exclusions. Plus also that you need to pay a hefty annual fee. B/c you can get free CCs like Kiwibank Zero. You could get a $20k limit if you want and choose not to go Gold. So you can pay a lesser fee like $50/year or free (like Kiwibank).

I've never heard of any credit card having a pricepoint for coverage, the exception typically is that you have to pay for at least 50% of  the travel costs with the card, or with ANZ a ANZ bank account if credit cards aren't an accepted form of payment.

Most cards also don't provide any domestic travel insurance, the only card I'm aware of that does is the American Express Platinum Visa. Clearly if it's something important to you then like evertything in life you should shop around and get the card most suitable to your needs.

BNZ does. You need to put >=$500 of your prepaid expenses on your card ($250 to Aus/PI), double that if you want your family to be covered:

Oh .. if you want perks and you don't want to go thru a credit check - there is AirNZ One Smart card.  It is a Debit Mastercard which you can earn Airpoint Dollars.

https://www.onesmart.co.nz/login/airnz

You don't earn that much APD in NZ used domestic but you earn it more overseas when shopping etc ..  You can earn Flybuys too in NZ.  You can also top up money into the account and use it together with your existing APD to buy tickets incl grabaseat specials and use it for bidding for discounted seat upgrades ie., Premium Economy.  Can also gift points around to other One Smart members.

Have a look around online like flyertalk.com and see if anyone knows a voucher code that enables you get join AirNZ without paying the joining fee.
