scottjpalmer: My VISA credit does it sometimes too. I blame the terminals.

I have an eftpos machine and this happens with customers all the time. Not sure what causes it, we haven't been able to pin it down to a particular bank and/or card.

I have had the same issue with my ASB MC, I called them up and they told me that there was a known issue that the chips are sometimes faulty and they replaced the card free of charge. The new card has no issues at all.

Try to call them and ask for a free of charge replacement, it didn't seem to be an issue for me.

We have the problem with ASB and Kiwibank cards, usually it comes up with ICC card error please swipe, I talked to the eftpos supplier and they said that it is due to the different techknology these banks used for their chips.
I just reboot the pinpad and it stops doing to for a few days.

But have to say out of the 80ish pinpads that we have it only happens on 2 of them, newer ones should not have the problem but will find that out when we upgrade.

I dont find it troublesome at all. You can clearly see the instruction when to remove the card.

It even makes the eftpos screen flash! :P

Been getting this a whole lot with my Westpac Visa, mostly at fast food places. Maybe it's trying to save me from heart disease.

Our football club had this issue a couple of years back. It was the terminal. It would happen periodically for all banks and both MC and Visa. The first time they replaced the terminal with the same model. The second time they reflashed the firmware. Low and behold no issues since.
