Sounds like the banks are copying Australia's New Payments Platform. It's about time. If you think it will do away with services like Windcave's account2account and Poli, though, you're unfortunately mistaken. Businesses love those services because they have all the accounting system integrations so they don't have to reconcile payments, etc, and don't have to wear any chargeback risk or deal with trying to find out which customer made that $17.25 deposit with the reference "Topup". Unfortunately when one of the two main providers of "Man in the Middle as a Service" (POLi) is owned by the Australian Government, it's easy to see it as a legitimate service and it's no wonder this app went straight for it.

The Dosh app has been updated recently. They now have a Visa card linked to your account (Paywave and chip/pin). You can now topup your Dosh account via bank deposit, instead of using Windcave (and giving your bank username/password 🤢)

There is potential for an app like this and the Dosh Deals option could be interesting if they get some buy-in from retailers (not an easy task). More info on it here, though the visa card isn't covered: https://www.banked.co.nz/dosh-mobile-wallet.

I think we'll all just get used to apps and other services having (secure and limited) access to our accounts as it becomes more commonplace. As long as there are protections in place in the event of an issue.

You shouldn't be getting used to it, and there are few if any protections.

I had a company want 3 months of my bank statements for a store card the other week and wouldn't accept ones with all the details except the amounts redacted. Needless to say I told them where they could insert their store card. I think that level of detail is overly invasive for a million dollar mortgage, never mind a store card with a low limit, all you should need to offer me credit is my proof of income and my credit rating.

*edit* to clarify they wanted the access via a similar third party logging into my internet banking

An interesting development, as per their latest email, Dosh has applied for a New Zealand banking licence.

Not sure how long that takes, but at this stage they are still not a registered bank.

From today, I'll be using their app to pay for day-to-day things (groceries, coffee, takeaway, etc). In two weeks I'll come back with my review.

I am currently trying it. Not sure there is a big advantage over a bank debit card thought TBH.

Same. Banks in NZ are not that bad TBH, so I agree with you, there is no real advantage on switching to Dosh.
