The merchant should also have a record of the transaction in their system. If they wanted to verify the receipt, easily done.

You can type the code in yourself. I forget the exact button, but it's the one where you'd manually enter a product and just type in the longer number from the NW card.

Its a hit and miss at New World self check outs.

Some stores have had a kiosk upgrade and thats able to read their app better if you crank the brightness.

Problem is, New World changed their app so now the barcode is smaller and duller....used to be bigger and brighter and there was no issues anywhere.

Interesting their operator checkouts can scan fine.

I'll have to look out for the button another person mentioned above... maybe thats switching the scanner from traditional laser barcode reader mode to camera capture mode)

This. Ive even been told by staff at several stores to scan the original becuase of fading.

As for apps;

For business receipts I use the MYOB "Capture" app, its very handy as it scans the receipt, uploads to in tray and also does OCR on the amount (helps in matching transactions)

For personal I use CamScanner on Android. On iOS CamScanner seems a bit scammy unless you subscribe to one of their plans. CamScanner has cloud storage which means they arent only stored on your phone (it has web access too).

Ive had mixed results with the iOS document scanner.

Also, didnt see it mentioned but the Warehouse app allows you to scan physical receipts with their app (via the barcode) and stores them against your account. I find this handy.

I'm told Office Lens can do decent OCR as well, but it has to be to a Word doc. It's otherwise a decent scanner. I just scan receipts on my scanner, rename the files with the place I purchased and keywords for what I purchased. Works well when I use Everything Search on Windows.

I bring them home and scan them in my flatbed. With how long they are its a real pain so I just normally rip it into 2 or 3 pieces and lay them out. Unfortunatly adobe has nothing in it to break apart and straighten the parts that are scanned on 1 page automatically so it will often fail the OCRing when its in my google drive. One place wanted me to print it out for a return, but most are ok looking at it on the phone screen.

Then there is kmart. Where their paper and printer combo is so faded and useless that even they cant read their own reciepts.

What software are people using for scanning receipts, particularly on flatbed scanners? I use the very old software that came with my brother multifunction device, Control Centre 4. It's ok. I'd like something that does scanning and OCR. I don't really care if it straightens the scans.

I use the Google Drive scan option on my android phone.

I have scanner but usually take a photo with my iPhone or iPad then crop to size and save it to Files as a pdf. Easier.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Like some others here, I use Office Lens as it does such a decent job of correcting for angle and contrast; I just amend the file name, retaining the date (as I tend to do it that day - even sometimes in-store before the receipt is creased!) and adding store name and item. It's then automatically uploaded to OneDrive, and every now and then I just drag those jpgs into a "receipts" folder and it's done. I'm not worried about OCR as the main details in the filename are enough to find what I'm looking for by a quick search.

Nice move by Countdown to provide digital receipts - used this for the first time this morning. I wish PnS would do the same, as they're $#%ing useless in accepting returns of dodgy products without a receipt.

Ryobi use scanned receipts for warranty . Also scan receipts to google.

All our claims are not done via scanned receipts and no longer want physical copies so that's must have passed the auditors.

I have a Brother MFC and I scan my receipts using the flatbed scanner. I use the Web functionality of the MFC so it scans directly to my Google Drive folder. It does it as an OCR scan too.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.
