Been using Wise for many years, both to move money between countries, and the card when I'm travelling for work or pleasure. I have a virtual card I use for online purchases, which can save quite a bit on sites like AliExpress if you select USD as your currency.

Did you need to obtain the physical card in order to create the virtual card (to get a 16 digit CC number)?

No - you can have multiple virtual cards with different numbers. You don't have to have a physical card, but depending on where you are travelling it can be handy. EG no all eftpos terminals in the UK would work with NFC/GPay but would work with Chip/pin.

This is interesting as it is a pain to me that Kiwibank doesn't offer ApplePay but aside from that I do not wish to change banks. From my reading of the fees info, if I transfer in less than $350 per month into an NZ account, then it will be zero cost apart from $14 for the card? Can I avoid getting the card fee by just having a virtual ApplePay card?

If you pay the $14 for the physical card the $14 ends up as a $14 credit on your NZ account

(Well it did for me a month ago when I setv one up anyway :) )

Wize is wonderful.  We should be supporting non bank financial institutions because we are certainly not getting a good deal on FX from the banks and credit card companies.  Biggest rip off ever.
