But what if it was stolen / intercepted and the thief then used it and triggered the message? 
What would you suspect in that scenario? 

I for one would not be responding to that text, but almost certainly be giving the bank a call directly about it.  

 

 

then you call your bank and let them know. They are either going to confirm the transaction and then cancel the card or confirm it was a fraud text.

The message should be sent in the positive, not negative, so requires a positive confirmation after the first transction, be that SMS, app, or otherwise.

 

 

 

 

Screw that they should just do what BNZ does, which requires a pin to activate it or logging into you acc/app.

 

Text messages are dodgy af

Who cares? It’s the banks money if someone does fraud on it.

Some people here have clearly never worked CX before otherwise they’d realise that the other half of customers would be complaining that they just got their new card and now it’s not working.

Banks aren’t stupid - they’re in the business of making money with money. They will have run the numbers and worked out that it costs less to just send them preactivated overall.
