In regards to the original posters 'recommendations'
1) Valid point 2) There are reasons why confidentiality is in place. Even if they were to accept that you were their son (which they have no proof of), why would they assume your parent's are okay with you knowing their flight information? 3) I would just be happy the airline is making reasonable attempts to contact your parents. They could have just sent an email, but they went the extra mile to speak to them. 4) Procedures are there for a reason :) 5) See point 2 :)
Just seems to me Jetstar is getting a bad rap because they are the new guy.
My Pacific Blue flights for next month have had their times changed significantly since I booked them, and for one of them it will cause me quite a lot of inconvenience.
Still, I would rather fly Pacific Blue than the alternatives. Jetstar is clearly a shambles and if Air NZ had their way I'd still be paying $300 for a flight to Christchurch like we all used to back in the 80s.
NickiB: I actually have no problem with them withholding that information. There are plenty of people out there who wouldn't want their flight information to be passed on to families (sure, they have MUCH bigger issues than flight rescheduling! But still).
I told Jetstar about my parents' flight to Wellington before they even mentioned it. Sure, if I had no idea they were going away, then keep the information confidential.

Still, just because you know about a flight is no proof of your identity. Jetstar have no way of know if your parents even have a son, you might be housesitting and had seen their flight information somewhere in the house for example. Even though this is a genuine case for you, with the number of calls Jetstar are making about flight changes, they would have to assume at least one person won't pass on a message or will accept flight changes when they don't suit the actual passengers, or will use the opportunity to benefit themselves somehow, if that's possible. Without an identifying factor like DOB or password, and consent of your parents, they can't discuss this with anyone else.
