Me: Hello
Jetstar: Is "John" there please?
Me: He's not home.
Jetstar: Is "Mary" there?
Me: No, both overseas.
Jetstar: Can I have your name?
Me: (silence, who is calling?) Who's calling?
Jetstar: This is Jetstar calling.
Me: (yeah, as if I would tell you my name without knowing who you were!)
Me: How can I help you?  I am their son.
Jetstar: Is there another number I can contact them on?
Me: No, they are overseas.  What's the problem?
Jetstar: There has been a schedule change.
Me: What's changed on their flight to Wellington in November?
Jetstar: Sorry I cannot tell you that.  We need them to confirm the schedule change via e-mail.
Me: I am their son, what's changed?  I know they are only going for a day.
Jetstar: Sorry this information is confidential.
Me: Are you a bank now?  How does disclosing a schedule change / new flight times make the information "confidential"?

Blah blah blah...

Jetstar:
1) Learn phone manners.  Don't ask who you are talking to when you haven't introduced yourself on the phone.
2) I clearly stated I knew my parents' flight to Wellington in November and advised I was their son, yet Jetstar couldn't disclose the new flight times over the phone.  Am I dealing with a bank here?  How would knowing the new flight times affect anyone or anything?  I can easily go onto their website and find out the flight times via a search.
3) Stop changing the schedule - I know my colleague had her flight changed many times on another route.
4) Don't work off a procedures manual - use initiative.
5) Why would I give you "John" and "Mary's" overseas number when you won't even tell me their new flight times?

Lame.  Pay cheap and pay the price!

What you need to do now is track that person down and lots of information about them to make them all paranoid (for fun ya know).

But in all seriousness, i wouldn't go with Jetstar purely based on the fact that they keep having to move everyone around to different flights. To me it reeks of poor planning, and I wouldn't want my plans ruined. Are they that much cheaper than everyone else that they can treat people this way?

I can relate hevenly_wild.

They changed our flight times to Wellington about 6 times since my partner and I booked. Granted, it was just an hour and a few minutes overall so no biggie but REALLY annoying. When I called them asking what would happen if the new times would have been a major inconvenient work wise, I was told I needed to send a "memo" to them coming from my employer stating I had work commitments, they then would perhaps consider a "credit"...

The person on the phone also asked my name before introdicing themselves as "Jetstar" and wouldn't give me their name lol. I guess that will teach me for wanting to try something different. Now where's AirNZ's number??

Yeah. If you compare prices with AirNZ, Jetstar is only cheaper by no more than 10%, if at all (keeping in mind luggage costs extra).

I am heading over to Aussie this week and I decided to go with Air NZ. You can pretty much be 99% sure that there will be no reschedulling of flights. Plus, no hidden surprises. In fact, Air NZ is cheaper than the likes of Pacific Blue.

Sometimes Pacific Blue is cheaper than Air NZ.. i brought my tickets return to Brisbane from WGTN - in April this year for Flights in October.. Air NZ was $2750 for 3 Adults + 1x 2yo.. Pacific Blue was only $1500 in total. Yeah i know there are no *included meals or entertainment*, but the flight does include the standard luggage inclusion etc. I mean i don't mind saving $1200 and buying something onboard to eat :)

$1500 is quite a bargain for 3x adults and 1x 2yo child.. :-)

Yes Pacific Blue can be quite inexpensive but you are at the mercy of their flight schedules (limited vs Air NZ) and you definitely have to book well in advance to get the deals.

I have flown with Pacific Blue and I love their seats!  Just as in aside, haha.

99% sure they won't reschedule? I'd say the opposite is true right now, several of my recent flights have been changed, both domestic and intl. Latest changes they made include having me at the airport at 4:30am and then landing back again at midnight for a trip to Melbourne. Originally booked SANE flight times to avoid such utter stupidity and they changed the flight there one day and the next day the return flight got rescheduled as well. I will never fly Jetstar, but I ain't too happy with Air NZ right now either :(

Well, let's just say the chances are slimmer via larger airlines. I have travelled on Air NZ and Singapore Airliens on a frequent basis and have never been reschedulled. Delayed yes but not reschedulled.

Anyway, nothing is perfect. This thread is to highlight Jetstar's "tight tight FBI-like" security, not disclosing new flight times to anyone, even family members. FAIL.

I actually have no problem with them withholding that information. There are plenty of people out there who wouldn't want their flight information to be passed on to families (sure, they have MUCH bigger issues than flight rescheduling! But still). I do agree they could have handled the call much better, but it's policy for just about anyone with personal information not to pass on any details. I'm sure the Privacy Act has something to say on that front! Even my mum can't deal with stuff on behalf of my dad sometimes. She has to get him on the phone and then he has to relay the messages between her and the company because she's the only one who knows the answers lol.
