Which is just an option to check, nothing else really.

Chainsaw: Okay thanks all, my head is spinning a bit but all good. I think the crux of it all is that I'd have to upgrade to a premier or Business account.

No i have a free account that accepts credit cards just fine. I really think you need to go checkout the paypal website for yourself.

But I have, often! :(  and like I said I've tried doing dummy payments and all to myself (from a different address of course).

I tried the link from Talkiet and clicked on his paypal link. It had the option at the bottom to pay through paypal or a credit card, but I can't get it to do that with any links or invoices or anything I send out to myself Cry.

The irony here is that my Geek rating is going up with these posts, whereas really it should be going down!

This is a really basic rundown of what you need to do:

Thanks, those last two links confirm an upgraded account is required.

1. "If you do not have an account, complete the registration process for a Premier Account or a Business Account."

and

2. "Sign up for a Premier or Business account"

Thanks. I'll look into that now. In the meantime I've emailed Paymex about whether they think their solution is right for me, they are a NZ company, so would be better for support (and we do hear some paypal horror stories), and their fees are similar.

Thank you all very much.

Yeah i only had a brief look at the paymex site but their fee's seem pretty reasonable and they are NZ which is good. Would have to investigate how smoothly they integrate into a site and how quickly they pay the money to you(i'm sure they can beat paypal on this one).

Read into the history of paymex before you get too far into things with them.

gzt: Paypal credit card payments used to be U.S address only. Did that change? Any limitations or problems for NZ?

When?  Not since 2003 at least, probably earlier...

Chainsaw: But whenever I've done a dummy run with the Paypal "email Payments" and I'm trying to pay myself, I always get to a page that requires putting in email addresses and billing addresses and signing up to Paypal!

I can't figure out a way around it. Or do i have to upgrade my account to a Premier" or "Business" account?

Note that as well as you really needing to have a business account (and use pay now buttons at a minimum) Paypal is smarter than the average bear, it displays different options depending on various heuristics it uses to work out if you might have an account.  I don't think it's just cookies from paypal.com (or x.com from memory is theirs too) either.

Basically, if PayPal thinks you have an account, it promotes the login to your account above all else.  If it doesn't think you have an account, the no-account pay by credit card is more prominent.

Just to confirm - upgraded Paypal account to Premier, and I can now get paid by credit card. Thanks for all your help.
