tchart: Thanks for all the replies, looks like their arent any cost effective channels. I will just draw out some AU$ from the ATM (there is one on Willis Street, Wellington which does this) and post it over to Oz.

Appreciate everyones time...

Just a thought, you may not be able to get exactly $30 out... I imagine the machine is likely to offer $50 notes only, or maybe $20s, but I'd be surprised if it gives out $10s.

in the past yes, but no longer. ??legal/taxation company issues?

It's called a telegraphic transfer, most, if not all, banks will do them.

TT (telegraphic transfer) costs around NZD$$25 + an Oz bank processing fee around AUD$14-15.

i think he meant direct funds transfer which no banks will do nowadays (well not mine ones anyway)

Yes I did mean a direct funds transfer, I thought I remembered something on ASB that let you do something like "fastcheque" but to Oz accounts (ie I enter their Oz account # and the money goes direct from my account to theirs).

You just send it to their email address which is their account, they can withdraw it from paypal to a bank account overnight. It's quick, cheap, easy, quick, and almost completely free of risk. It's a lot safer than cash in an envelope.

PayPal won't work with my Kiwbank account....so may not work with other banks.

Mine works fine with Kiwibank. You're doing it wrong.

I send money to the US on a regular basis to the same person, and the cheapest method for me is a special Westpac card that we both have. Costs $20 for the setup and then $1 per transaction for me.. and just the currency conversion after that. You can send up to $10,000 over the life of the card, its all online and you transfer into it from your normal account. The other end has a password and just withdraws it from any ATM. I know they have the same thing from here to Australia, so if anyone has family that you send birthday and christmas money to..its the best way.

Try paymate. They're Australian and you can pay him directly. It goes to his bank account.
