Bring self employed we usually get demands not refunds! I think they wanted another $16,000 this time.

Recieved an email in junk folder from IRD stating I have a refund of $275. Reply email is a @ird.co.nz

Click on the URL and it goes to a phishing site. Be careful people. I deleted the email afterwards but it all looks legit most of the way.

Do whatever you want to do man.

^^ that sort of stuff is one reason we use accountants! All our IRD comms are via them, so if it comes from anywhere else it goes in the bin.

Something is really messed up with my partner's Kiwi Saver.

It appears that the correct deductions have been made by her employer, but that IRD aren't paying the correct amounts into her scheme.

Is she able to make me an authorized person via the MyIR portal so i can try to get this sorted on her behalf, or does she have to phone up and sit on hold for an hour to do this?

We can't see anywhere to do this in the portal, but hoping someone here might know.

It's not always easy to match up the KiwiSaver deductions you see on your payslips with what you see in the IRD website. My understanding is that this is because the employer makes the payments in bulk to IRD and not necessarily on the same cycle as the payroll. The IRD site shows them as they receive them.

I used to use a spreadsheet to track it, the running total usually matched up but the individual transactions were all over the place.

Factored all that in. It is definitely wrong, and over a period of about a year.

EDIT: so could be that employer is not making correct payments even though they filed the correct amount?

Why on earth does this happen? In most countries, your tax is accurate. Even if you change jobs or do not work for a while, it is tracked accurately every time you are paid. The only exception is if you do not work at all for the final paydays of the year.

Because up till now there has been a few fixed tax codes to choose from, and if you pay goes up, or you have 2 jobs so one has to be paid on the punitive secondary tax rate you pay too much during the year. Only been sorted out this year and not 100% from what I have been told.

Awesome, so what you are saying is that, with all of the advantages brought about by modern tech, our IRD is in the process of catching up to where the UK was in the seventies.

Greetings all

Anyone else had issues with this, I had an email saying my return was ready to file, went in, clicked through the various screens, can't seem to select any of the check boxes and unable to progress past the draft stage

Is there a browser issue?

i am using Vivaldi, with ad-blocking turned off

But i also tried with internet explorer for the same result

yep, for two reasons, the mail header looked right and as it didn't come with a link to the myIRD site, i had to manually navigate to the site.

That’s not necessarily right. My wife and I have income earned jointly (interest, dividends etc) that needs to be split between us. IRD don’t know how we wish to split this, so we have to complete forms online to get it done correctly. They sent me an email telling me to go to MyIR online to complete it.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

FWIW that has been my experience too. I gave up trying to make sense of it all once I realised it all added up to the right total amount at the end of the period.

It's fairly complex as there are three stages: from your employer's PAYE payment to the IRD's PAYE's account, from the PAYE account to the KiwiSaver 'holding' account (this transaction occurs internally within IRD), and then finally from KiwiSaver (IRD's account) to your KiwiSaver provider. I have seen it take up to 3 months for money to come out of my pay and into my KiwiSaver—some of it due to employer's payroll timings and some of it due to IRD internal timings. This is part of what makes it so tricky to match up payments as you would expect March's pay to have a corresponding KiwiSaver transaction in the same month, but often you'll find it processed at different stages over a month or two (or even three) later.

This is all supposed to be improved with the new system but time will tell whether it works as advertisted!

Waiting for my refund.... How long does it take for a refund to be paid into your bank account?

My bank (ASB) didn't send me a letter this year with the details of the interest I've earned and the tax I've paid on it. Is this now standard? Do I still have to provide this infor to IRD or does the bank send it to IRD?

I have to file a return because as well as my salaried job (which I pay tax via PAYE) I have extra income via a partnership and I need to declare this to IRD.

I was able to get my savings accounts tax statements online (no letter), however IRD already had these details this year.

Company share dividend taxes were not present on my IRD summary and I had to put these through as a lump sum.

Companies surely must file tax statements to IRD, so I am surprised IRD did not automatically pick these up in my summary.
