JaseNZ:

I cannot access my transactions now that they have canceled my card, will have to ask bnz how I get into it.

Same with me when lost card. All transactions were mine, but for some reason they only moved the balance to new card, not the individual transactions.

Interesting to see certain banks pop up but not others. With Kiwibank and I'm all good here. Kiwibank do have this extra step (as long as the merchant's payment provider supports it and Kiwibank has flagged the transaction as potentially unusual) where they verify your details. Wonder if that managed to deter some of the scam payments. Nothing on my Wise (ex TransferWise) card either and that is the card I use with foreign merchants. Wise also has the extra step requiring app or SMS code authorisation at unusual merchants before authorising a transaction.

Ever since I have stopped putting my card into retailers websites I have not had a problem. Now that afterpay is a commonly accepted thing I am using that on merchants that do dumb stuff like insist on iframing their payment gateway or worse, have the form on their own website. The only place I still enter it on sites with their own form is mercury energy.

Will be interesting to see who it is this time, last local one was animates who thankfully I had only ever used paypal with them at that time, and they now have changed to processing thru an external gateway now like it always should have been.

Was there a leak with Animates? Online or instore? We shop instore a lot and had fraudulent charges on the card.

That was 2019, they closed their whole site for a while and launched a new one. Their post about it said that the site had malware on it for months, so I assume that was harvesting details from it.  It will be something the same again with some other retailer so its just a matter of finding out the common links between all the people on here with issues. For what its worth, I have nothing untoward on my cards but they're both at the limit so would probably fail if they tried for something large like people are seeing.

Do any NZ banks offer virtual cards? I’ve got it with my UK Monzo account for this exact type of issue.

Thank you--Wise doesn't seem to be promoting this yet. I've just set up a Virtual Visa card. Interesting that the virtual cards are issued by Visa, because their partner for the physical cards is Mastercard.

No, they dont. NZ banks are hopeless and just rely on the largly secure local network of terminals to protect them from skimming.

Card numbers need to go die in a fire. Noone is using zipzap machines or paying over the phone anymore, so a permanent non changing number is the stupidest thing possible for online payments but hey, stuck in the 1970s still I guess. Adding 3 extra numbers to the other side of the card and a chip was their last attempt to make it more secure. That doesnt work that well when the stripe can still be used instore just by having a chip that doesnt work.

Manual credit card transactions with the zipzap paper form are still available. Had to do one on a cruise boat in Milford Sound a couple of weeks ago. No reception for the POS terminals.

So my two looks like they were Russian. They were also set down as a subscription set weekly.

I have now removed all payment options from google for the time being.

That sounds like a really “has no clue” or lazy tour operator. I thought in this day and age you can store and hold eft transactions on the terminal until you can get service and ‘upload’?
In this case I’d be pretty sure there would be some coverage at the main docking wharf.

Any transaction would require you to sign a receipt to authorise the offline payment.

I also had rogue "Apple.Com/Bill Sydney Au" charges too between mid Sep 2020 and mid Oct 2020.

@turtleattacks and I have compared credit card transactions and have it down to about 11 possibilities where we had used our cards at the same place. DM and I can share that list to see if we can narrow it down even further.
