I recently managed to network up my house as Wifi just wasn't cutting the mustard for all my devices, this included a nice gigabit switch. I'm now in a situation where network transfers via FTP from my WDMyCloud run faster than my 3.25" 1TB drives can handle, resulting in end of download buffering (this actually fills me with glee knowing that everything is moving so fast). My colleague at work recently upgraded his family's laptops to SSDs and has been raving about the performance gain ever since, so, replacing my 3.25 disk with an SSD in my main computer should be my next upgrade, I am running sufficient things on it to be able to measure many kinds of (hopefully significant) performance gains. I also have multiple portable devices, because while I could use one device for multiple purposes - I love gadgets and 'The more the merrier' works for me. this includes: iPad, iPod, HTC One X, GoPro (always using it, always running out of juice), Garmin GPS receiver. I actually rank the iPod as the most vital here, as a Misophonia sufferer the idea of my iPod running out of power fills me with sheer dread - I do own an old Solio solar charger which has now come to the end of it's well-used life. A good power pack will be well loved and well used.
I'm a very kind person (so I'm told) and normally would use these items to upgrade the better half's laptop because: "WHY IS MY LAPTOP SLOW? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IT? FACEBOOK IS TAKING AGES!!!11!!111!!!!!" and give her the power pack because: "WHERE IS THE PHONE CHARGER? WHERE DID YOU PUT THE CABLE? WHY ISNT THE PLUG SWITCHED ON? WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS MOVING THINGS? OMG IM SOOOO BORED MY PHONE IS DEAD I CANT MAINLINE FACEBOOK DIRECTLY INTO MY FACE!!!!111!!!!!OMFGFMLIH8U!!!11!!" but: 1) I reserve all tech improvements for myself first, and 2) she doesn't deserve it.
Oh and if a picture gets me bonus points here is a picture of my cat. The Internet loves cats right?
Just bought an Asus Vivobook from trademe for a more portable laptop for a family member. Apparently the slow 5400rpm drive is a real drag on the already sluggish Celeron processor so an SSD will be going in there at some point. And someone in the house is always complaining of a dead phone battery (usually me) so the power bank would be getting a healthy work out too!
Would love to win either of these the powerbank would be great for my partners phone and the SSD would be a welcome addition to either my laptop (which since upgrading to 64 bit with all updates now takes 3 mins to boot up instead of previous 1 minute) or main pc which I've been wanting to try with a SSD for a few years now.
Hi there. I would put the SSD into my new i7 box to make it boot faster and use the power pack to charge my phone when travelling. Hope I win them both.
Please put me in the draw for both. Would use the ssd for my Wife's new computer that is coming thanks to this thread. Would use the powerbank when traveling.
please put me in the draw for both aswell. need a powerbank as i realised how important it is when travelling. you forget how many pics u take withy our phone and half a day in your down to 20%
SSD is going to be good since i wanna upgrade from SATA to SSD
The SSD would be a nice replacement for the old Vertex 2 I have running one of my machines and the Power Bank would be great for keeping my old S3 and iPad up and alive when I am out and about :)
