I'm looking at changing my bank, all I need is a bank that does something like ANZ's Serious Saver which rewards with bonus interest each month. I am currently with ANZ and don't want to go near National for reasons I don't want to go into. So wondering if anyone banks with Kiwibank and how do you find them? Their Heaps software looks interesting. Otherwise, my only real other options are BNZ, SBS, or ASB or Westpac.

im with ASB and they are great to deal with, always friendly people when you need help on the phone or in a branch

ASB - They have several saving options for your consumption, and a iOS / Android app.

Also, the best customer service I have ever experienced.

Try ASB: http://experienceasb.co.nz/ their Social Media team is very switched on, great service via Twitter for me. And their Facebook Virtual Branch is just as helpful as real people at the branch.

Internet is my backyard...

I'm pretty happy with Kiwibank and heaps is nice, though I don't use it often enough.

I'm with kiwibank. They are fine and really helpful when I need something, training is sometimes lacking though and they often have to pass me around 2-3 people to get something slightly unusual done.

I also find the line is really long as it is combined with NZ post (this might just be my local shop though)

It isn't really a problem for me as I don't visit often, the fees are generally lower than other banks.

The drawbacks are worth it for me being NZ owned.

Kiwi bank is a nightmare if you want service in the bank, You have to line up with all the trademe people trying to courier items and buy postage stamps!

The worst thing is they don't even have one of those rapid deposit systems like other banks, so even if your organised you still have to wait inline :(

I have both BankDirect and ASB. I have been with BD for years (probably when they were the first virtual bank). The service is excellent and my account manager always calls me when I have a mortgage renewal and negotiates a slightly better rate than listed.

I guess the only annoying thing is BD don't have a smartphone app while their parent ASB does! It seems a bit strange to me - why can't they share code?

I have a transaction account with BD that pays interest and no fees at all if the balance is $5K and over and so I have never paid bank transaction fees.

ASB internet banking is world class!

I use both ASB and Kiwibank and will continue to do so, as they each have their strengths.

- ASB offers Share Trading whereas Kiwibank doesn't.

- Kiwibank lets you save any payee to whom you send a Direct Credit payment e.g. suppliers that you pay each month. This is perfect for our farm.

- ASB won't let you save the payee details for a Virtual Cheque, so you have to enter them each time, or else use a Bill Payment which they charge a fee to set up. Any time you want to change the details which appear on your statement, or the payee's statement, they also charge a fee to change it. Only $1 or $2 but it is still annoying. Kiwibank don't charge any fees at all for changing payee details.

- ASB don't charge any fees on their transaction account if you have at least $5k balance throughout the month.

- Kiwibank give you 4 accounts to play with, and so long as you have a combined balance of $4k or more across all of the accounts, there are no fees on any of them. We use one for Housekeeping, one for our farm, and one each for two family trusts, which is very convenient. With ASB, we would need to leave $5k in each account so as not to pay fees, whereas with Kiwibank we just need to have a total of $4k across all of the accounts.

- As JohnR has said, the queues in some Kiwibank branches can be long. However, the ability to bank cheques without needing to fill out deposit slips is great -- you just swipe your card, enter your PIN, and they deposit the cheque for you. TBH, I seldom go to the local branch because I do pretty much everything via internet banking.
