I've tried to use my Westpac Mastercard twice this morning and both time it failed - not declined.  I tried my wifes and got the same result.

Rang Westpac card services and had to wait about 10 minutes - not long but unusual - and was told that Mastercard had a power fault and would be offline for up to 2-3 hours.  Considering I tried to use my card at 8am - that's 5-6 hours offline!

I can only imagine the carnage at Pak n Save etc when people get to the checkout and cannot pay!

Anyone else having a problem this morning?

Hi,
I've just had the same problem at countdown. Both mine and my wife's cards didn't work. At about 11 o'clock.

May the farce be with you!

Still not working at 11.30! Was yours a Westpac card also?

My ASB MasterCard worked fine at a local bakery and dairy. Possibly fixed now or isolated to Westpac?

Our BNZ Mastercards worked fine this morning.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

In the retail store I work in, I can confirm this was Westpac, and affected all cards this morning.

Judging by the comments, it looks like I was told porkies by customer services.

Although strange thing is they did me a favour!

I was trying to book a hotel this morning but couldn't.  Went on this evening and there was a 50% special for the dates we are travelling.

Don't know whether to complain or thank them!! :)

Did the American Express side-kick cards work (iirc only the low-interest Mastercard options don't come with the American Express cards)?
