Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone's tried out the new Zoomy app for booking taxis yet?

From the Play Store:

  • Find a taxi by setting your location on a map and clicking the order button;
  • See a picture of your driver, their name and even the licence plate of their car;
  • Track your cab’s route as it heads towards you on the map;
  • Receive an alert when the driver arrives at the door;
  • Book your taxi up to three days in advance;
  • Rate and provide feedback on your driver when your ride is complete;
  • Receive a complete invoice with all your taxi ride details via email – no more pesky paper receipts!
Seems like an interesting concept, but I wonder how it would work out in practice.

Currently in Wellington I see about 7 active drivers on the map, which isn't much but I suppose it's not too bad for a recently launched service.

Thoughts?

I used these guys a few weeks back, I have a blog post review scheduled, I'll try and get it completed today and post it up.

Short version: it's a great app and service.

While I haven't used it the app looks great. The only thing I feel it's missing is the ability to select an individual taxi company (which is something I've suggested to them).

Lots of taxi companies in NZ really missed the boat with the whole app market. I bet there is probably nobody on here who even knows about the Hutt & City Taxi app which has been around for ~18 months and gives you GPS updates and all the things many of these apps have. This uses the MTData backend and terminals that many of the large taxi companies run so it would have been very easy for Blue Bubble for example to launch this as a nationwide product.
