Just got a pretty convincing scam email asking me to "confirm my PayPal details". The link goes off to an .ru website.

So watch out!

Why not just reply to the nice people at the NZ address?

How do you know that the link goes off to a .ru site?

Link text is legit but link src address is different, lots of noobs fail for it I'm afraid.

See, this wouldn't be as much of a problem if PayPal had stuck with the old thing they used to do where every email advised you that PayPal would never include links in emails and that you should always manually type www.paypal.com into your browser. But no, that wasn't "friendly" enough so PayPal started including handy hyperlinks and damn the security.

Not very convincing at all.

It says to click on a ** LOG ON ** link in an an email.

That is the number one warning sign of phishing email...

It's a shame so many people still fall for it.

Do the world a favour and report it to Paypal (spoof@paypal.com) I always report phishing sites to google as well https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/

Nope, unfortunately legitimate emails now have direct links to log in to PayPal, since PayPal decided that Convenience Trumps Security.

On another note, I notice that the "Windows Technical Centre" calls around dinner time have started again.

New twist though - got one on Monday evening and just hung up. Within 3 seconds I got another call with the lovely Asian lady asking "Why you hang up?", so I did again. Then another call saying "It's very important that (I) not hang up", which I did. Fourth call my wife answered and dealt with by saying she doesn't own a computer.

Oh joy .

My mother (92 years old and in Australia) deals with these calls by saying that she will just go and turn the computer on, then walks away leaving the phone off the hook until the telco sends disconnect beeps down the line.

Brother got one today from a scam website trying to look like Paypal asking whether he sent $100 to someone or not and if not, click on the link to apply for a refund. Thankfully he asked me whether it's legit or not.

Have reported the website to the above Google phishing link.

Do whatever you want to do man.
