Says any phone, so does this sticker actually need to be stuck to the phone; as it seems it would not need to communicate directly with phone; otherwise it would only be compatible with NFC etc. type phones.

While on the topic of paywave is it possible to break the paywave chip, thing, whatever it is while still being able to use the card since banks don't do cards without them now.

Can't wait to try this. It'd be nice if they could use the NFC built into my phone already though. Still, I could see this useful for a night out, not having to hunt through wallet for the right card etc. Wonder how we can get in on the trial? :P

You can disable the NFC by using a hole punch to break the antenna inside the card. You just have to be careful not to break the chip or mag-strip. There are many guides online. Don't know why you wouldn't want it though, as any fraudulent charges on it would be treated like a normal fraudulent charge. Just tell the bank, if they don't detect it before you do that is.

I could not rely on this as my current asb paywave is unreliable and might work 80% of the time.

I'm assuming the same underlying tech is used.

If someone gets their hands on it they can use it. It also means I can't just hold my wallet up to the snapper thing on Wellington buses because it reads paywave as a snapper card and says "multiple cards detected" it's annoying.

I am guessing that this is actually a paywave "mini card" with some double side tape on the back and there is no communication between the phone and the card. Any "account selection" is done by the back-end of the network.

here is a list of paywave "device" formats, they could also have chosen a key fob, but advertising a visa key fob is no where as sexy as something that sticks to you phone :)

My ASB credit card works with Paywave about 10% of the time, I've given up on it. It worked better when it was new. It's had a hard life that card, it's slightly bent in one section from use, and it has to last another 6 months or so. If you ask for a replacement card they give you one with a different number, which can be a pain since credit card numbers are loaded into different websites, replacement cards are the same number with a different expiry date. Maybe changing card numbers is an advantage.

I wonder what they need to "trial" with a stick on NFC sticker?

The same concept has been trialed numerous times here with numerous banks, along with some large scale trials in Aussie and the UK. The concept works fine.. But hardly anybody is using it because the idea is just plain dumb.

Only place I use mine is in the petrol station, has a success rate of 100% makes me wonder if it is certain terminals not working correctly?

I had issues with mine not working anywhere, so gave up using it.... then found that Countdown (main place I tried using it) was pushing their own CC, and were actively blocking any PayWave except their own cards... theyve since changed this policy and my card works happily at Countdown and a few more places Ive tried previously that were failing. Suspect there was some bug in the system initially which has since been sorted....
