Hi,

I work for a small business.  We invoice all of our clients and they pay by Direct Credit or cheque.  We have no over the counter services and no Eftpos/credit card facilities as such.

We picked up a new client who was wanting to pay by amex.  After signing up with Amex merchant services we have the ability to manually submit a charging voucher for one transaction a month.

This is fine but we now have another new client who may want to pay by Visa each month. ($50K a month transaction)

Does anyone know of a good online payment facility that doesn't cost the earth for only a couple of transactions a month?  I've had a look at Visa's website and I can't seem to find any info about dealing with them direct to do manual voucher like we do with Amex.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

DPS have a facility where you can login and manually run transactions.  They aren't cheap though.

Contact your bank. I recently Signed up with merchant services with ASB. But that was for a mobile eftpos machine. The terms that I had to agree to were interesting. Main one being that if I accept "card not present" transactions. I must verify the identity of the person who is paying. To avoid the possibility of successful charge backs against me. And if you are doing manual transactions, you have to phone and authorise each transaction. The Interchange fee I pay is 2.85% of the transaction amount. But you can qualify for 2.5% for high total monthly payment amounts and high average per transaction amounts.

Is there any possibility you can get the customer to present their card and process it through an eftpos terminal? Since it is verified in real time and you have more protections. Especially since you want to process $50K transactions.

Why don't you just tell the people you don't accept credit card, and if they pay by direct credit, you will give them a discount of the amount in fees you would pay for it to be done by credit card. These days it is just as easy to pay by direct credit via online banking. There are also risk with them paying by credit card to the merchant, especially if they are paying that sort of money per transaction.

We we have won the contract from another supplier who may have already have been charging them via credit card.  For a $600K yr client we are trying to do all we can for them.  We will be discussing the card fees with them.

I have just contacted ANZ and there is an option to charge over the Phone with a pure commission charge.  This may be our best option.  I'd really like the client to use a web interface to pay directly then we don't have to worry about the security of card numbers here and there are less chances of a disputed transaction.

Paypal or PayMate. Paymate has no monthly fees, is done online, service is good, and if you talk to them you and tell them the amounts involved they'll probably give you a better rate.

I would recommend DPS as well, it's the easiest solution for what you want and it's cheap(ish) if you have a low number of transactions.

PayMate has a maximum transaction value of $10,000 so would not meet the specifications required.

Thought they said $20K on their page, more by arrangement.

So does the clients pay the credit card fees? I would guess you are looking at something around 2-3% fee for the transactions with Visa and MasterCard, and somewhere upwards to 4% with Amex?

I really hope you have a good margin if you are covering the fees for the client, for a total revenue of $600k a year we are not talking pocket change..

As far as I know, DPS charges per transaction not a transaction percentage.

Their lowest package is $50 a month for 100 transactions. An initial setup fee of $150 applies.
