I see that John Banks is set to resign by the end of the week. Everybody will have their own views on this be they agree or disagree. Personally I have never liked the guy and always thought he was arrogant and cold.
I think he knew about the donations but then again this would be pretty prevalent amongst all the parties its just he got pulled up on it by a private prosecution.

In '04 I attended a leadership conference at the ASB showgrounds where he was a guest speaker, he was such an arrogant prick.

Was disappointed he didn't man up and do this once the verdict was announced. Afterall he's had plenty of time to go over the likely scenarios and options.

As someone who appeared to want us all to be better more responsible folk his arrogant response to a seemingly obvious outcome did him no favours. It shouted I'm not responsible till my legal team has looked at all the minutiae to see if there's a way out of this hole I'm digging.
And what does that say to all those shorted sighted people out there on legal aid support, who have done something seriously wrong but wont accept it.

He said that he was surprised by the verdict, so maybe he didn't really think about it. If you believe you are innocent, you don't expect to be found guilty. I think it is reasonable to wait a few days and think about the best thing to do. I think he has done the right thing. I think if he stayed, he would have been mocked too much. One thing it does show though is how tough it is to be a politician, and it takes a type person to do it.

You maybe right.
But I see him as a politician, and maybe gave him too much credit for that.

I actually like John Banks. It was only whilst he was Mayor of Auckland that we actually begun to see stuff getting done, especially with transport. Would have been great to have seen him in there longer and we would have had the V8's too! Too many short sited Auckland voters.

Now that you mention Len Brown. What is he guilty of? I must have missed his trials....

All of the political parties are probably involved in this kind of stuff to a more/less degree. Kim Dotcom's vendetta has been met.

Banks, a racist homophobe and now confirmed crook. Will not be missed by me at all, the guilty verdict brought a smile to my face.

National/ACT voter perchance?  Because I can only imagine that's the only explanation for how you can possibly conflate engaging in a criminal act (deliberately structuring a donation to avoid having to declare the source) and a case of poor judgement (having a mistress while being the mayor).  John Banks did something that is a matter of importance to every voter, and Len Brown did something that is frankly none of our business.
