Just and FYI in case anyone else has experienced credit card decline using Westpac this morning.

Apparently they have lost connection for both VISA and MasterCard for clearing connection resulting in a mass of declined transactions.  My wife was able to pay with eftpos so that is at least working.

No ETA for fix when I rang.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Do you know if this affects visa debit cards as well? I'm not sure how much Visa has to do with in store purchases (not using payWave of course)

If you choose CHQ or SAV you should be OK. PayWave and CRD buttons will both use the Visa network and may not work

Except presisng CHQ/SAV would also mean you are not covered from VISA/MC protection/insurance that is offered on certain cards

That was probably all the people (like me) checking their account in case there has been some "unusual" activity.
