Because international flights I'm looking at connect in Australia. I'm just going through and collecting my luggage then checking in for the next flight, but that requires a transit visa.
I've tried calling the Auckland center and they couldn't tell me, they said they'd email information but never did. I emailed them and got two links back (neither of which worked anymore, lol!) and no answer to my particular question.
So I thought I'd post on here in case anyone else has run across the same problem :) Cheers!!

From 29 September 2015, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection will commence collecting biometrics from clients applying for Australian visas in New Zealand.
Most clients lodging a visa application for Australia in New Zealand will need to attend an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in person to provide biometrics unless they are excluded or exempted from the Programme. New Zealand citizens are excluded from providing biometrics.
Visa applicants in New Zealand who submit their applications at the AVAC in Auckland or Queenstown will be asked to provide their biometrics at the same time. A new AVAC will open in Queenstown on 29 September 2015 to provide services to clients who live on the South Island.
Visa applicants who mail their applications to the AVAC will be sent a letter requiring them to attend one of the AVACs to provide their biometrics.
Visa applicants who apply for online visas may need to provide their biometrics. If so, they will be sent an electronic request letter requiring them to provide their biometrics at the AVAC.
The AVAC will charge a service fee for application submission and collection of biometrics. Please see the Service Delivery Partner (SDP) website below for more details.
Details of the AVACs in New Zealand are as follows:
Auckland
Australia Visa Application Centre
Level 1, West Plaza Building
1-3 Albert Street
Auckland CBD
Opening hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Monday – Friday
Queenstown
Australian Visa Application Centre
Level 3, Forsyth Barr House
57 Shotover Street
Queenstown 9300
Opening hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Submitting a complete visa application with all required supporting documentation at an AVAC, and providing your biometrics at the same time, is the quickest and most efficient way to lodge a visa application in New Zealand."
