I understand they are just passing on costs but I'm accustomed to them not having one. Playtech used to have a point of difference with no CC surcharge and free shipping compared against lower quality stores.

Playtech offer Direct debit to avoid the surcharge but that is an overnight wait and a bit fiddly/time consuming - it would be better if they offered polipay as an option, which is at least instantaneous.

Computer lounge now edges to the top of my preferred supplier list :) Although , maybe not long before they do the same I guess as margins are squeezed this is an easy option.

Not sure about the cheaper anymore,  having done a pc build recently and shopping around for prices for parts, they were quite often not as cheap as i used to think they were. Got better deals using mightyape, computer lounge and playtech, i suppose it depends what you are after at the time, i do have the luxury of being local to all of them and not having to get anything shipped.

CL first with PBtech as my backup and "whatever's cheapest on pricespy" coming up third has been my preference for some time depending on what I'm after.

wasn't this surcharge introduced some months ago? it has put me off buying from them now as it does increase the price compared to other stores.

Has anyone here got a trade account with PB tech?
Or just ask for a trade price nicely?

Probably, maybe I haven't bought off them for a while now. I tend to buy things in bursts :)

Yeah just ask them for better prices and you will get them usually. They will usually match whatever. What branch do you go to normally?

The Playtech one has been around for a while, I usually just order online and pickup in store and pay via CC there as there is no in-store surcharge.

Seems the Playtech surcharge is 1.5% as opposed to the 2.5% at PB Tech.

I don't have a problem with it.
Not sure why people get upset about this, if you're unhappy about it get mad at your credit card company for charging the surcharge in the first place.
They are the ones that are making massive profits every year, not local retailers.

PBtech get most of my business, but they arent even close to being the cheapest most of the time, and have lately been uninterested in price matching other stores (manukau and penrose at least).

MightyApe tend to get a lot of my business now as well, same day shipping (sure costs $8 but its great), they do price match and have many things in stock.   However not the small stuff like 0.3cm cat6 cables :)

ComputerLounge surprised me the other day and pricematched alphacity without question, picked up 2 3TB WD Red drvies from them, PB lost the sale over $4.  Their argument was you would have to pay shipping, my retort was "I would have to pay you 2.5% for a CC surgecharge"

anyone charging a CC surcharge always puts me off TBH.

sure but if you argue the "local retailers" line, you have to then compare them with international sellers, to whom which Ive never come across one charging a CC surcharge (im sure some would, I just havent come across any).

If you're going to sell online, either accept Paypal or CC with no surgecharge.  Having to wait a full day for the funds to clear, then another day to ship means it takes 3 days at earliest to get something.  With CC its quicker and easier.  Plus their must be admin costs involved checking the cleared funds etc.

Yea because it is probably against the law in other countries, like it used to be here?

I get why they do it, but it does drive off customers.   Is it really worth the extra admin (for online orders) + orders driven away for the 2.5%?  PBTech is a bit different as its in store and you can directly pay via eftpos, but I never order online through them because of it.
