i am with another bank and want to switch to westpac but they do not offer online signup so i'll have to go into a branch and signup. how quickly would i be able to get a westpac transaction account open in? would i have to go in and signup then go back home and wait for something to arrive in the post or will the account be open straight away and will i get my account number instantly?

if i want an atm card can this also be issued to me straight away or do they post it? is there anything that westpac mail to you by post after you signup or do you get everything on the day?

My experience with ASB Bank is if you have all the correct documentation (such as birth certificate/photo id, proof of address) you can get signed up there and then.

I'm assuming the banks are all the same - why not go into a Westpac branch and ask?

If you have all the right details, westpac can set up the account on the spot and issue a card. You will get to know the account number and the details.

If you are after a credit card, there is always a delay period for approval and for the card to be sent to you. Debit cards (visa cards tied to a cheque account) take a few days since they are posted.
