Hi

I want to get prepaid credit cards for use by children. Instead of giving them pocket money in cash, for local purchases, google play, and online purchases.

I set up accounts with my bank with limited funds, and asked for debit credit cards.  They only supplied eftpos cards and then after asking why explained that children need to be over 15 and parents sign a waiver.

I once had a loaded everyday card, but the website was very slow.

Looked at prezzy cards, but the fees are a concern.

Looking for recommendations, something easy to top up and manage with low fees.

I would suspect that anything with Visa etc written on it will have an age limit. Maybe the one that is built into the Air New Zealand Airpoints card? That may also have an age limit, of course.

Perhaps a good work around would be an Eftpos card (which would be limited to cash at bank) and they use that to buy pre-paid Google Play, Apple etc cards of specific value instead for those particular needs?

Prefer a generic credit card. Rather than specific store type cards.

I also note that the Prezzy cards expire at 12 months and any balance is forfeit, so another mark against them.

ANZ visa debit cards require you to be a minimum of 13 years old

Just give them cash. If the parents are onto it they can make the purchases for them and deduct from the cash in their piggy banks.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
