Hi I am asking about people's experiences.

Hypothetically, say if you nana sent jonny x, jimmy x, abby x, john x, and sally x the same item, all to the same address.

Each item is NZD250 inc shipping but the combined value is > NZD1k.

Is that going to be taxed? (Same family name, same address but different persons)

Very likely as customs normally pickup on things going to the same address and will consider it someone trying to get around the duty requirement.

Legally customs would be able to charge you.

Note: For duty and GST calculations, if you import multiple orders in a short time period from the same supplier and address, we consider them to be a single shipment.

As I understand it, if they're all gifts you should have an out. Check out the rules around tax/duty on gifts.

Here's a thought... why not call customs and find out first hand?

They exceed the $110 gift threshold.

$110? Wow. That's rather low!

I always find it fully when people think marking something as a gift somehow makes it exempt from GST and duty.
