I think the old Scamers who used to call around as Windows repair center or something are now going around making calls from 048890348 and leaving a robotic message posing as the IRD to call them in matters of urgent time sensitive bs or face "persecution".

Just a heads up to anyone.

Talking of scams, I got a voice mail messed call on my landline yesterday. It was a  recorded message saying I owed the IRD money and legal action was about to be undertaken.

The message gave me a Wellington local number to call them back on.  A quick google of the number showed it to be a VOIP number from an Australian provider.

Had to listen to it twice to the message make sure it was a fake. Pretty convincing at first pass as the wording and accent seemed good - but they provided no details (eg my name, or my company name) and were very general.
Thinking about it I suspect the voice was machine generated.

Anyway full marks for a convincing scam - with the Wellington (04)  local number and quality English message I can how a few people could fall for this scam.

I forwarded a copy of the recording of the message to the IRD - hopefully they can at least get the VOIP number disconnected.

Hope I get one of these calls cause I am getting a refund of just under 5k so then I can say but you owe me x amount of $$$ and when am I getting it

We haven't been given that superpower.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Think if I have a scamming call from them I'll say "excuse me? I've been in jail lots of times and rattle off a list of bogus convictions."
