We received an email from IRD on Saturday morning saying we had received documents on the MYIR account.

So, sign on, but there are no documents to read.

Checked our tax returns, they were filed correctly but the details in MYIR is an absolute mess and very difficult to understand.   The paper tax return receipt is good, but the details in MyIR just do not match up.

So, have been calling IRD today to see what is happening , but my call cannot be connected (AT ALL), and I should use their self service options.

It really is an absolute disgrace!

Has anyone managed to call IRD today on the personal tax number?

And Provisional Tax <gulp>

As a wise friend of mine once pointed out, if you are paying IRD GST and Provisional Tax ……. you are doing OK!

Are you sure that the email is definitely from IRD, and is not a scam email?

This is exactly why I don't want banks etc to send me documents via email. Far too many elaborate scams and dangerous links. I am amazed that banks still use links in their emails, and also employ third party companies for surveys that uses obscure URLs.

I got the same email from IRD telling me I have documents available to view last week.... log in and nothing.

The thing with IRD emails is that they never send you links and never ask you for anything, which this email fulfilled all those requirements, so I don't believe it was a scam.

I get the same thing when I log in. If it is for GST, you have to go to the GST section, which then shows you what return is due. I don't think it is connected properly to the main interface. The website is a definitely a work in progress. They should employ Xero to redo it all. Tax could at least be beautiful :)

There are now two areas where messages/letters/documents can be, the old My IR section and also under the My Business area. The email notification you receive look different depending on which area the document is in and should say where it is located. Check both sections.

We have had ghost emails about documents in the new My Business section but never the My IR section. In fact we get two digital copies of every letter in My IR, and two notification emails on different days despite the letters being dated and uploaded the same day, and then they also post a copy of it also.

I always have trouble with IRDs online services. Emails saying there's a message when there isn't, pages that fail to load (if I wait 10 - 20 min and try again it magically works), or that simply don't provide any useful or meaningful information. Given they've only fairly recently 'revamped' parts of it, it's really poorly thought out and implemented in my view as a small business.

I got two emails in the last week - the first was dodgy, certainly not from IRD, and appeared to be a phishing attempt, while the second was legit; I'm not saying yours was the former, but just that there clearly are dodgy emails out there at the moment.

Yeah, this is the whole problem with companies and government departments switching to email only. The less tech savy people will be getting caught out by these fake emails, as some of them look legit, as the scammers are getting a lot more clever.
