How often should someones credit history be getting checked ? Obviously when you make a request for credit from somewhere, but other than that, should anything be triggering a credit check ?

I ask as CreditSimple send me notifications when something has poked at my credit history/report, and I seem to get them a lot over a period. Then it goes quiet for a while, then I get a bunch again (probably 3x a week for 2 weeks at a time).

I have recently made some changes with my bank which would've involved a check, but it reminded me about how often I get these notifications.

Do you have credit cards?

Banks now send this data each month and this is what keeps kicking off emails from credit simple for me.  If you look under the credit card area you will see that data is updated if you are paying your credit card or not.

I've unsubscribed from Credit Simple emails, it's all noise with little real content. Just check it every 3-6 months if you're interested.

@freitasm the page formatting is looking weird.

Yeah thinking I'll do that.... then forget about it altogether and go "be nice to check credit score online somehow" :)

Yeah, thats the one. :)

What that means is they are updating your payment history. Credit reports now list both good and bad things so updating that you've been keeping up with your payments. Do you have a mobile on account? I get them all the time too and it's VF updating my payment history

Do you guys monitor your credit score for gamification, or do you all buy stuff on finance etc frequently? I as as I've never checked my credit score and don't really have any inclination to do so, but have never had any problems buying stuff on tick either for that matter.

@gbwelly I watch it to make sure no one is taking out credit under my name / ID theft

neither stop the credit report score alerts though, read the fine print.

as far as i know and having emailed them to ask there is no way to stop those emails as long as you still have a credit simple account. that was as of May 2019. i just cancelled my account because if a company is unwilling to stop sending me emails on my request then they don't deserve my patronage.

I get that one every month - just an update of my ASB mortgage. Pretty annoying
