Why do we put our clocks back at 3am?

Why not 12am or somethign like that?

3 am is the official time, You can put your clock back at any time, most people do it before they go to bed.

Because in theory, 3am is the time when least people are up so least impact. Common sense prevailing, strange eh? But I know plenty of people who were up at 12 but crashed by 3, so it looks like it has.

12am wouldn't be a logical time. For a PC it would be OK as the time actually moves from 11:59.59 back to 10:59.59 but for anything that needs to be adjusted manually you'd need to adjust the date as well or you would end up at 11pm the day after if you changed the time between 12am and 1am.

The 2am time (3am with DST) is pretty standard across a large number of countries including Europe. I guess it's simple a convenient time with the least impact.

It's to stop the big government secret, that you can actually go back in time. If you did it at 12, then you'd end up in the previous day :O

For this daylight saving end, the local time went 02:59:58, 02:59:59, 02:00:00, 02:00:01, ...
