AMI Telemarketers - Investments - 13% Return Per Month

Over the last week I have been receiving telemarketing calls (up to three times a day) from the same company calling itself AMI.

They all have American accents and all promise returns of 13% per month and all want to confirm my postal address. I'm not interested but no matter what I say they keep on calling.

Anyone else get these?

Ask for their details (postal and physical location) and advise them that you will be reporting them to both the NZ Securities Commission and the US Securities Exchange Commission.

The NZ SecCom has a list of "scams" on its website and you should have others warned about the behaviour of this crowd.

There is no cross-border protection regarding investments. In NZ you have recourse against NZ brokers.

you would think they would come up with a scam that at least sounds like it might be a good thing instead of an obvious scam. might as well promise you a free unicorn at the same time.

Hang on, wait! You mean those bastards aren't giving away free unicorns with every investment?? But but, I'd already named him Spike, and made up a back story and everything for him... He was going to be a king from a far away land made of marshmellow and chocolate... :-( oh well at least I'll be getting 13% per month on my life savings ($3.85)...

In all seriousness how do these people expect others to fall for scams such as this? Is it a ponzi or just an out and out disappearing act? Madoff would be proud. Their number didn't start with 419 did it?

Simply because some people aren't very bright, some are greedy and others are vulnerable. Make 100 calls and you'll hit five people. Locally, Jacquie de Berri flogged $450k off her employer to help the transfer of $18m to her account after an unlucky engineer died and left the loot to his long lost cousin. Peter Bell paid $1.2m to be part of a Nigerian scam and even a senior Citibank executive stole $7m for a promise of $30m. Even the boss of Telecom is promising an XT network that works and people are falling for it!

Good point! you'll be pleased to know that we stay away from household polling.

I personally find the calls just as irritating.
