I have just noticed that i got charged 20c for a text i sent 2 days ago to westpac requesting my balance.
I have checked my account and i still have 8 free texts left this month, i also recieved a text later that day alerting me that my balance was under $25 but i was not charged for that. How come i have been charged 20c for sending this text even though it is meant to be free. Also i remmeber that after i have sent my first 50 texts i was not able to send a text to westpac and i got a no funds text vack from telecom - how is this possible if they are free?

I think the "Free Text" part is to do with westpac not charging you to send them, If you look carefully at the t&c you will most likely find something along the lines of "normal carrier fees may apply".

Yup. Your normal TCNZ/VFNZ/2D fees apply for all texts, the "free texts" means Westpac won't charge 20c to your bank account. Once you've used up your free ones, you get billed 20c from your carrier for the sent message, and 20c to your bank account from Westpac for the received message.

Yes that is correct. Only applies to those they send you, not ones you send them.
