I'm quite impressed after I transferred a fund online via western union to my family oversea. About 2mins later after the payment made I received a call from my bank and they asked if I were the person authorized the payment.wow.. Feel a bit safe with my visa now:)

How did they identify that they were actually from the bank before you started confirming details? (And what bank?)

I've been rung by ASB and called out their process as they ring you, and start talking about fraud on your credit card. I suggested they ring and direct you to their website and ask for the fraud team.

That's actually a fairly good point, it's quite risky to go on faith that the person who called you is actually from the bank not a scammer.

yeah good point, depends on info though. basically i just got a call and all i had to say was "yes". didnt have to give out any info or anything.

on slightly/completely unrelated note the guy who installed my house alarm told us to always ring any person calling up about the alarm back to ensure we were speaking to the right people. when our alarm went off one day (as they do every once in a while) i said ill ring you back, and they were dumbfounded by this, saying "why??????"

My one it was found to be fraudulent transactions so ended up having to get the cards replaced. So off the initial cold call I would have had to give out a lot more information.

I asked for an extension and was also given a direct dial - I didn't like the idea of the direct dial and so went through my regular 0800 number.

I'm more paranoid than I thought I was....

That said, full credit to these banks for getting in there quick to pick up these transactions.

I refuse to give any information to anyone that calls me unless they can prove who they are. For example I will ask a bank employee to tell me details that only myself or the bank would know before I talk to them. I'll never give them my password on the phone. If they must have it I call back the bank and ask for that person.
