Firstly check if this is even a legitimate rental that you have and not part of a boarding/flatmate situation as that really changes what rights you have.

This is another issue, because the unit doesn't have a CCC or an official address that is searchable on Auckland Council rates website for example, or Quic address checker.

It does completely raise all reg flags!

However Barefoot and Thompson drew up a rental tenancy agreement??!!?!

Does each unit have it;s own power meter with ICP? https://www.ea.govt.nz/your-power/your-meter/address/

That looks like solid cable so there is a good chance that its got a wrong plug on it which gives a crap connection and may need a squeeze in a crimp tool to get some connection again, but if it is a plug for stranded cable on solid stuff it will fail again as things move around in the plug. Really need to have a better look at the pins and see what the jacket says to know either way tho.

The whole thing looks like dogs, breakfast, non-outdoor cable been used, wrong plugs, get a professional in and stop mucking round.....

  • Landlord has stated that Chrous installed the network cable between the two units and its their responsibility

I could almost guarantee that is not the case.

Conduit up the side of the unit, but underneath the unit the cable is exposed, tacked to the flooring.

That is the correct way to do it

On looking at the photos, it appears the data cable is running into the wall behind the ONT.
This means the chorus tech may have terminated the cable that was probably installed by the electrician when building the units.

Often I tell the electrician to pre-run the cables for me when i am at a renovation job and i'll fit them off at the same time as i go to resplice the fiber and move the ont.

Inside your unit, does the cable come out of the wall as a cable with a plug on the end, or is it terminated to a wall socket?

The landlord should be paying for it to be repaired.
However if the landlord is not being cooperative, you could decide to fix it yourself in which case you have two options
1) Have a professional come and look at it
2) Rent some of the tools from a local computer shop and i could video chat you through the repair

The tools needed would be
- RJ45 Crimp Tool
- Network Cable Tester
- A pack of RJ45 plugs from jaycar

If the cable terminates to a wall outlet on your end
- Medium size philips screwdriver and flathead screwdriver
- Punch down tool (or TH1738 from jaycar)
Usually its just a case of the outlet needing re-punching in these situations
