This incident has been confirmed as a very large distributed attack against our network.
We have limited international connectivity of our network as an immediate response, which has improved domestic connectivity, while we work with upstream partners on further mitigation steps.

Does anyone know who their upstream partners are?

Looks like it's mostly Cogent and GSL: https://bgp.tools/as/64073#connectivity

YouTube was still happily playing, but now it's dead too. Time to do some housework, I guess.

I made the mistake of finishing my housework a few minutes before the issues started happening. I should've planned my day better. /s

Thanks @quic for the updates on the status page. Very helpful knowing there is an issue being actively managed, and not having to do local troubleshooting.

Hi all,

Jumping on here to give a quick update - thanks to everyone who's pretty much passed on all I'm going to say anyway.

Since approximately 14:20 this afternoon, we have been working through a very large attack against our entire network, distributed globally.

While we have mitigations for these scenarios, which are regularly automatically implemented, this attack is at a level we have not seen before.

We have stabilised the network and its supporting systems & services, with connectivity restored internally, domestically & trans-tasman. We have however needed to rate limit our broader international connectivity to what is usually normal levels, in order to regain stability of core network elements.

We understand the inconvenience this causes, but is required to maintain stability while we work through further defence mechanisms with our upstreams, or see a positive change in the attack.

For anyone without any connectivity however, there is no network-level reason for this, and I would recommend checking your connection in the portal, turning off your router & ONT for 25 minutes to clear any session which may be corrupted, and then power back on.

On behalf of the team, I apologise for the trouble caused today, and continued disruption to international connectivity, and while I can't provide a firm timeline of full restoration, our Infrastructure team are fully engaged in monitoring for any changes and adapting our strategy accordingly.

Updates will continue to be shared on the status page.

Thank you for your patience.

Things seem to be better than they were. I saw a suggestion elsewhere to use a local VPN in the meantime, and that certainly lessened the pain a bit for me. Now it's (physical) game night, so I won't need to worry about it until tomorrow 😁

Mine just finished, we played Quarriors, then Splendor then Dominion.

Crossposting our latest status update:

Further defences have been implemented in joint efforts with our upstream international transit providers to further mitigate against attacks, and international connectivity is at near-normal performance levels.

  • Domestic, trans-tasman and internal network connectivity remains operational.
  • International connectivity remains limited, however is now at near-normal performance levels.

Incident is now moving to a monitoring state with our response team.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused while we worked through this immediate incident response of this large-scale distributed attack today.

TLDR: Things should be looking a lot happier than they were earlier.

Thank you everyone for your patience while our team worked through this nightmare, and an extra thanks to those who reached out with support.

We played Frosthaven and got through by the skin of our teeth. I used my last card to win the game (and it was an "if any player runs out of cards*, everyone loses" one).

*At the start of their turn.

Gloomhaven/Frosthaven for all the nice weight in the box does not really work for me. The main mechanics where you have to burn your cards every re-shuffle and getting weaker and weaker during the fight somehow feels very wrong. I understand that you are supposed to win before you run out of your deck entirely, but this tension does not feel nice to me to the degree that it's a deal breaker. I probably should not have a long boardgame related discussion in an ISP forum, and I thank the moderators for tolerating it thus far.

Yeah, I waited until today to reply since things seem to have quietened down on the Quic front :)

The idea is that your character is getting more tired, but it took a bit of getting used to!
