So I'm right at the point of switching providers and am wondering with switching to Quic do I need to cancel my existing provider connection or is it done as part of the process?

So the trick is to do this
Lock in your new connection date. Do not talk to your old ISP yet. Also take care if your old ISP has a minimum notice clause in the contract, if it does then find out the minimum notice you need to give and chose a date around that, so you're not paying for a connection.
Once Quic have confirmed the date and time, and you get an email about Chorus (or whoever your local fibre company is), then call your old ISP and say I want my account to close on (insert 2-3 days after your Quic account becomes active). Doing it this way means you might pay for a few extra days on your old ISP but it's worth it in case something goes wrong.
Whitianga, Coromandel - Quic "Sprinter" UFB - Ref (free setup): R893192EGADLZ
Smokeping: Prodigi / Voyager / Starlink
Something else - if your current ISP has a tagged (VLAN) connection then tick this during sign-up as it'll basically mean a seamless swap assuming you're already using PPPoE also.
Check your router configuration on this.

Cheers @ssamjh & @michaelmurfy - something something hitting nails on heads.
In short, once a circuit is moved between (any) providers, the LFC will notify the previous provider that the circuit has been moved away. However, always pays to contact your previous ISP once your install is locked in, or once you've moved across, to ensure they've processed the cancellation as sometimes they do get missed.
Look forward to welcoming you on board @acsi!

I have just signed myself over to Quic, and then transferred my old man onto Quic as well.
All went well, connection live and transferred very quickly!
Noticed the ONT in my old man's profile was not the one physically installed at his address and still had a Spark IP addy, sent an email in the evening to the support email address, by 11am the next day his Connection had changed to his new Quic Static IP and the portal online had been updated.
Impressed with the Quic work by the team.

Ah the old address mismatch trick! Sorry about that, sometimes reality doesn't match LFC records so creates a bit of a headache. Luckily it's relatively straight forward to sort!
Welcome to the Quic family, @Johnk 🧡

Switched over within around 3 hours of hitting the button. Excuse the pun but you are Quic(k).
Thank you

section in bold - what is this for? I have requested change to Quic on this coming Monday (2 days after my current ISP contract expires). I've had confirmation from Quic (after a little hiccup around the date), but have had nothing from Tuatahi (Tauranga fibre)?
I was just going to wait until connection changes over on Monday to sit on hold / call 2degrees?

Depending on the LFC, some LFCs send emails or SMS to the end customer to let them know of the order/dates etc - but each LFC handles this side differently.
If we've given you a date, this means the LFC has given us an "RFS Confirmed" date, which is the date a service should be live (ready for service).
