I've just set up a home FreeNAS server (9.2.1.9) and want to allow access to some files to be download via the internet.

I expect that most access will be from windows machines without without Putty or other SSH clients installed.

To make it easy as possible for others to access I was considering just enabling FTP - is this going to cause huge security issues? What else should I consider instead?

If I enabled write access as well as read access would this make it significantly less secure?

I had an SSH port open for one day and was amazed at the scaning in the logs

Bit of newbie with this so any advice welcome. Thanks

I think you can install OwnCloud on FreeNas either via plugin or manually in a jail.

SSH enabled with only private key support. People can scan all day long and it won't matter. :)
