I'm considering hosting a text editor that can access files from the Docker image itself e.g. File | Open shows its folder list, including the config folder. Open local (PC) folders is not essential.

I want to map a UNC folder into the config folder and then see if I can open remote files on the browser through that.

I tried code-server - too much for what I want.

Answering my own question. Since this would run on a Synology NAS, I can map the target network drive as a sub-folder of a shared folder and open files using the native Text Editor app available when you login to the NAS.

No need for a Dockerised text editor - the one available is good enough for my needs in this case.

Alternatively, there is code-server, which is vs-code in a webui

Thanks. I tried it - mentioned in the last sentence in my post.

Oops, can't read!

What didn't you like about code-server? I mostly only use it for editing docker container config files.

I want to access files in a remote machine. I've mounted the UNC path as a sub-folder under the /config folder.

VS can see the path and load it but doesn't show its contents so I can't open any file.

It could be permissions but the same VS can open any other file in the config folder structure, except the contents of the mounted UNC.

The code-server is running with Administratior PUID. I could try without it.

Yeah that should definitely be doable with code-server.

Another popular option is File Browser, which has editing capabilities

Thanks. I've just loaded filebrowser. It does what I wanted albeit a bit slow to load large directories and only one file edit at a time. The upside is no need to log into the NAS itself for the text editor.

There are some mentions of creating a cache file to speed up browsing of large directories so I will have a look later.
